The outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent school building closures for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year have created questions related to end of year activities, especially graduation. We have been working on safe options to provide recognition to our Class of 2020 students while monitoring changing guidelines.
On Saturday, May 2 the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education released “Joint Guidance” regarding COIVID-19 and School Graduation Ceremonies www.isbe.net/covid19. We are reviewing the most current information and consulting with Egyptian Health Department, local law enforcement and the school’s legal counsel.
While the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year is occurring under unforeseen, historic
circumstances, Carmi-White County CUSD #5 is committed to giving the Class of 2020 and
their families fond memories of this momentous time in their lives.
There are many factors to consider in making this decision, with the most important being the health, safety and well-being of our students and their families. Our plans are to release the date, time, and type of graduation ceremony for our CWCHS seniors later this week.
*Please Note: Final plans may need to be modified based on ongoing guidance from Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the State of Illinois.
